There's no issue with these unofficial builds (I'm not saying all, but these in particular).
Not going to brick my device.
I just flashed this and sure enough, USB audio works...but then cuts out after 30 seconds of play, and per the poster on XDA, doesn't work again until reboot.
But it's a start.
At least this got me to unlock my bootloader, root, and slap on a custom rom.
Now it will be easy to try out rom/kernel combos.
Yes, and flashing a pre alpha rom not meant as a stable daily driver is not a good idea if you want to actually use your phone 100%. You may not notice it now, but when you start missing important phone calls or having other random occurrences, you'll start to understand why. Been down that road many times before, and I crackflash all the time.
CM and a bunch of other roms will be stable enough in a few weeks. just give it time.

"Important phone calls" and "other random occurrences" are not really an issue to me.
If I cared so much about that, I wouldn't unlock, root custom rom/kernel.
Just tried it again, got through a full song.
Considering how ridiculously frustrating it is not have this feature, I'll take even if I get a hiccup on my netflix app or something.
If you're that way and have a Nexus 5, give this a go.
Here's the xda thread on this rom:
This build (the 11-24 build I posted earlier) is working great for me for everything else too, not just USB Audio.
There is an 11-25 build now in that thread too.
I just wish there was a true head-fi'er who was an xda dev.
now I'm through multiple songs with no issue.
As mentioned above, unplug and then plugging your DAC back in loses the functionality until reboot, but that's a minor inconvenience at this point.
What matters is we have USB Audio Support on the Nexus 5 without UARP!! :)

Not surprisingly, USB audio support is absent.
Let's hope it soon get's enabled in the CM source so all of us can flash and listen.
I'm running cm10.2 on my galaxy s4 and usb audio is supported.

Steve Kondik posted today on that Google+ thread I linked earlier:
"+ yes our support should be quite good. If the hardware can do it, we should support it. Note that Exynos4 and msm8660s can not support it without the use of a powered hub. Mako doesn't support it either. Nexus 5 is working great now with my Pico on cm11 :)"
FYI Mako is Nexus 4, but information about other processors is very helpful.

Only concern I have is that my HTC One doesn't work with my Schiit Modi, which according to their website states only 120 mA current draw. Also, I've tried using the Aqvox USB power supply and it still doesn't work. Maybe it doesn't recognize the external power, or maybe besides power, there are other specifications also needed for OTG to work?
I was gonna wait to post until they added my "Member of the trade" disclaimer (I work for Audioengine), but didn't want anyone to grab a D3 and be bummed to find out it doesn't work with the device they wanted it to, so I hope this is OK.
The D3 needs 24 bit support to work, so native playback won't work on most Android devices.
It will work with the new Samsung devices that support 24 bit - Note 3 and Note 10.1 2014.
If Samsung keeps that up going forward I'd guess devices they come out with in the future should work too.
It should also work with UARP on any device that supports OTG.
But again, if the device does not support 24 bit playback at an OS level it will not work with the D3 for native playback (stock music apps / Pandora etc.).
The D1 should work for native playback on pretty much any Android device that supports USB audio though.
I actually had the chance to confirm that the Motorola Moto X supports native USB playback this week (just picked one up from Republic Wireless).
It works great with everything I've been able to test with.
Shamelessly all Audioengine stuff : ).
D1, W3, and the USB input on the A2+s all work.
No D3 though.
I got some pics I'll share after I get my post count up.

Thanks for this. I know my HTC One works with the Woo Audio WA7 DAC which is a 32 bit DAC. It also works with my Firestone Audio Spitfire HD which is 24 bit. So it should work with the D3. It should arrive tomorrow so I'll confirm. Note I gotta say with all DACs Android 4.2 ran much smoother than 4.3 for me as with 4.3 I have to plug it in then restart the phone for it to work and I've lost the volume control functionality with the phone. This volume control problem is likely my biggest concern as it will play on max volume and the D3 doesn't have a volume control of its own. DanielP, any idea if the max volume amped through D3 will be too loud? I'll find out tomorrow anyways I guess.
One other thing in your post. You said no D3 for Moto X. Do you mean you didn't have it to test with or it didn't work with the phone?

Still no "Member of the trade" badge, so I feel compelled to again profess, I work for Audioengine
before rambling on.
The Moto X runs 4.3, and also lacks software volume controls.
I'd guess whether or not it's too loud at max will depend on what headphones you use.
The Yuin PK3s I use regularly are way too loud at max on a D3.
I rarely need to raise it above about 1/4 volume in fact.
If you have larger, higher resistance, and/or lower sensitivity headphones though, it could end up being OK.
I hope it works out for you!
I tested the D3 with my Moto X, but no dice on native playback.
It does work very well in UARP though, and again, should work in UARP on any Android device that fully complies with USB OTG spec.

I've got an update for the Telus Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747m).
The official android 4.3 update was just released today (build JSS15J.I747MLVUEMK5) and it has flipped around the working DACs I have.
Android 4.1.2 (stock unrooted)
Audioengine D1: works with PowerAmp and Samsung music player
Fiio E17: does NOT work with PowerAmp and Samsung music player
UARP works with both DACs
Android 4.3 (stock unrooted)
Audioengine D1: does NOT work with PowerAmp and Samsung music player
Fiio E17: works with PowerAmp and Samsung music player (limited to 16bit/44kHz)
UARP works with both DACs
The AT&T Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747 non-m) should have similar behavior, but someone with that exact phone may have to confirm.
Well, I guess I don't have to buy the Fiio E18 anymore since the E17 now works with my S3 (which still has 1.5 years remaining on contract).
The D1 wasn't exactly a viable portable/"on the go" setup anyway so it's not a huge loss.
I wonder if the 4.3 update will break the Fiio E18 functionality since I'm pretty sure they were testing/building it with the 4.1.2 build since 4.3 just came out in the last 1-2 weeks for the i747 models and the i9300 models had their 4.3 update recalled shortly after being released.

Is there any way that you could make that list expandable if someone should choose to want to look through it? I gotta say it is extremely obnoxious to have to scroll through.

Wow, way unconstructive way to give feedback to a guy who has contributed a lot in this thread and gone to a lot of trouble to maintain this excellent list of reported working DACs and devices. "Obnoxious"? Really? If anything seems obnoxious to me, its the way you raised this.
Looking past that to the gist of what you're saying, it could be more user friendly, I agree. With that in mind, a few thoughts come up DanBa: perhaps maintaining the list off-site in a Google doc or something and merely posting new information here and linking to the full list? That might even make it a bit less work for you? Or perhaps using spoiler boxes, so for devices with a lot of reported DACs they take a minimum of space in the post and people who want to know about those devices specifically can expand the relevant bits? Just a couple of thoughts, probably other good ways to tighten up the lists presentation and make it easier to use.

It can certainly be a pain to find the latest page in the thread with the updated list. A dedicated link with the updated list seems like an awesome idea.
It would be really cool if you could put all of this in a sortable spreadsheet and add values for "native USB audio" or "UARP only," etc. I have an Optimus G and want to sell it and pick up something with native USB audio to make my phone the centerpiece of my car's audio system. It would be really helpful to have a quick list of phones that suit my specific needs. Not entirely necessary, just quality of life stuff.
Either way, we all really appreciate DanBa's efforts. Thanks for doing what you do!
