City of Heroes was a premier free-to-play MMORPG from the vaulted game companies NCSoft, Paragon Studios, and Cryptic Studios, and holds the distinction of being the first super-hero MMORPG. Players could enter Paragon City or the Rogue Isles and create a hero or villain from 10 archetypes, add Powers from a list of over 40 primary and sub classes, then set about questing to rise to the top of the hero or villain hierarchy. They could meet and fight alongside many signature heroes and villains, including Statesman, Lord Recluse, Sister Psyche, Scirocco, and others. Players could also ally themselves with other heroes and villains and build their own super Base of operations. They could also use the Mission Architect to create and share adventures. The game was shut down in November of 2012.
Paragon City | Heroes must help defend the good citizens of Paragon City in nine sprawling city zones.
Rogue Isles | The haven for the super-powered Villains, consisting of five crime-ridden zones.
Hero Archetypes | Blaster, Controller, Defender, Scrapper, Tanker.
Villain Archetypes | Mastermind, Stalker, Dominator, Corruptor, Brute.
Super Powers | Select your powers based on role - melee, buff/debuff, ranged, control, defense - to make up your Primary and Secondary Power Sets.
Sometimes blasts from the past are a ton of fun. Hosun Lee has released what he calls the City of Heroes Freedom Blooper Reel that is a ton of fun for fans of the now-defunct title.

A new post has cropped up on Titan Network that is attempting to bring fans of City of Heroes together for a twelfth anniversary get together that might possibly feature an RP session, 'personalities' possibly including ex-Paragon Studios employees, live streaming and more.

Former City of Heroes developer Matt "Positron" Miller is ready and waiting for questions from the now-defunct game's fanbase as part of his "Loregasm" series. Miller has created a special Google Document that allows people to ask non-business related questions about City of Heroes.

A new post has appeared on the City of Titans site by Missing Worlds Studios President Nate Downes. According to the lengthy post, the team behind City of Titans has been in negotiations with NCSoft to acquire licensing for City of Heroes in some form or another.

The 10th anniversary of City of Heroes' release came and went with not much more than a whisper. The game is dead and so the usual jubilation and of course, events to go along with such a momentous occasion, were nowhere to be found. It's a bittersweet thing to reflect upon. There just wasn't anything like City of Heroes, and to this day, there still isn't.
