What the developers have to say:
Why Early Access?
&We know community involvement and feedback will help us create the most epic wizard game of all time.
With the help of our amazing alpha testers we have created an intense and exciting core game. At this point, it is well known that a disappointing Early Access can permanently sour players to a game and so we have delayed releasing in order to deliver the best possible initial experience. We still have many more features to add and are very excited to collaborate with the community to build the ultimate wizard shooter! Please do not purchase unless you are excited to play an early version of the game.&
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
&Grimoire will be in Early Access for at least six months, possibly longer. We have a list of must haves that we expect to take up most of that time, but we also have a list of features that we want the community's input on. Once we determine what people want most in Grimoire, we'll know how long we need to complete it.&
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
&The full version of Grimoire will include more classes, more spells to customize classes, more modes, more maps, and more magic. These are the features we would like to have in the completed game:
10 Wizard Classes
More than a dozen unique maps
Unique (Conquest) mode
Competitive (Arena) mode
Custom CO-OP vs. AI mode (Safeguard)
Extensive Player Stat Tracking
Destructible objects/buildings
Dozens of innovative spells
Matchmaking/Ranked Matchmaking
Spell customization system
Awards And Achievements/Prestige System
Keep in mind all features will be dependent on both our development resources and the interest of our community. None of the features on this list are guaranteed to be in the final game, and purchasing Grimoire now in Early Access only guarantees access to existing features. That said, we have developed Grimoire thus far on a very meager budget and are confident we can deliver an incredible, polished game given enough time and resources.&
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
&Early Access Grimoire contains the following features:
6 wizard classes
Dozens of unique spells
Quick Match and Server browser for easy online play
Conquest game mode and 5 maps
FFA (Deathmatch) game mode and 2 maps
8 Selectable Spells for class customization (4 mobility, 4 utility)&
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
&Grimoire will be discounted throughout early access.&
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
&There are three ways we want to include our community in the development process.
First we want their ideas for new spells, new classes, and new maps. Second, we want their feedback on everything already in the game. Finally, we want their input on what we should work on next. With these three avenues of communication we believe Grimoire can be one if, if not the most, collaboratively designed shooter ever created.
We will have regular design ideas forum threads/public discussions. Whenever we release info about the design direction for a class or map tileset we’d like to hear from the community on what they think would be the coolest way to achieve the design goals we’ve set. This will allow us to maintain a cohesive overall design while at the same time incorporating ideas from the community for specific abilities.
The spells, locations, and modes we’ve already added to Grimoire will shine in some areas in lack in others. We want our community to do what gaming communities always do: complain about stuff they don’t like. In addition, we want to incentivize players to do something they don’t always do: post about stuff they do like. We understand that different players want different things and that we can’t make a perfect game for everyone- so we’ll be clear on who we want different classes and modes to appeal to- and then make sure we’re actually making those people happy by reading their feedback.
The Grimoire community will be directly included in the development process through voting on upcoming features and weekly Dev hosted playtests. There is a bunch of content to get in before release, but the order that content gets added to the game is up to our fans. This will ensure that people who get Early Access will get the content they want to experience as soon as possible. Its our way of rewarding the people who are supporting the development of Grimoire.
We believe Grimoire can be the pinnacle of wizard games. Gamers who enjoyed classics like Magestorm and Wheel of Time - or who simply yearn for a truly unique shooter - we’re here for you.&

About This Game
Grimoire is a multiplayer mage FPS that gives players control of devastating magic. Unique spells put a twist classic shooter gameplay, adding the tactics and trickery of magical combat. Explore a dark medieval world through exciting game modes that put a new twist on old favorites. Fight for territory, prestige, and your very survival. Scorch your enemies, vanish into thin air, or turn to stone with dozens of powerful spells at your fingertips!
Choose from one of ten wizard classes and wield four primary spells in deadly magical battles. Pick two additional abilities from a shared pool of spells that range from teleportation to a powerful kinetic blast that sends foes flying. Mix in passive abilities that increase your tactical options and you have a recipe for combat befitting a student of the Arcane Arts.
Many spells are inspired by our favorite MOBA games like DOTA 2 and League of Legends. Grimoire's FPS spin on these strategic spells creates fast paced tactical combat unlike anything you've played before. Grimoire is not a game of instant damage and unavoidable death. Every spell has a counter… if you’re ready for it!
Conquest - Magnus and Validus battle over control of key sources of magical energy known as ley-lines. The longer the ley-lines are held the more energy is gained including a large influx of power if one house can manage to take total control of an area. Destructible objects can reveal new territory or bring the environment crashing down on your enemies. Inspired by games like Day of Defeat, the Battlefield series, and Team Fortress 2; Conquest is a territorial battle that features large (8v8) teams.
Free-For-All (Deathmatch) - Chaos reigns supreme in this fight to the death. This classic game mode is a great way to try out the game without worrying about objectives.
Arena - Small groups of wizards (3v3 - 5v5) face off in tight quarters where death is final. In the arena the two houses compete in sanctioned slaughter for glory and the right to claim ancient weapons of incredible power. The bold player who captures one of these artifacts must spend time attuning to its nature, but once attuned their magical prowess will increase dramatically and assure their house’s victory. Unfortunately, attunement is a complex process that afflicts Wizards with negative effects. Will you risk taking hold of an artifact or will you face your enemies head on? Inspired by Counterstrike’s classic mode, arena is competitive combat that demands exceptional teamwork.
Safeguard - This cooperative mode pits a few powerful wizards against legions of vile creatures. The southern kingdom has risen and you’re one of the few wizards left capable of defending the empire. The city is your battleground and its people are in peril. Will you save the citizens trapped in the tavern or will you topple the building to crush the horde? Victory is measured not just in survival, but in how much of the city you can manage to save. A special in-match progression system, quest objectives, and procedural event-driven enemy attacks ensure this mode will have enough depth to satiate even the most diehard co-op fans.
The northern land of Aesir is home to two great houses locked in bitter struggle. The fate of the Empire will be decided by the House that wields the power of the Grimoire. In ages past use of the Grimoire heralded the dawn of magic, called forth hosts of mythical creatures, and brought a vast civilization to ruin. Now, the Grimoire’s power is coveted by House Magnus, who was entrusted to guard its secrets, and House Validus, who intends to use its power to bring forth a new age. Their feuds spills blood in the streets while a yet-unseen power rises in the south...
War approaches. An epic conflict not only for power, but for survival.

========================================Vince Rowe Reviews========================================THIS REVIEW WILL BE UPDATED DURING THE GAME'S DEVELOPMENTGrimoire: Manastorm is a fast paced Twitch FPS arena deathmatch primarily built for PvP, it has the potential to become highly competitive due to it's extremely high skill cap, combos and variety.Pros:+ Fast paced action FPS+ Large variety in spells and classes+ Dynamic spell-casting with an exceptionally high amount of combos+ Huge skill cap+ Easy to learn but hard to master+ Huge re-playability+ Relatively balanced for an early access game+ Reasonable pricing+ Consistent updates+ Informative, Reliable and, Promising Developers+ A lot of potential+ Great with friends+ Bots to fill in for lack of playersCons:- Extremely low amount of players- Large amount of bugs (Early access)- Graphics are bad- Everything is typically too dark- Multi-player only (other than Bots)- Networking issues- Limited animationsOverall this game is pretty fun, I'll be keeping tabs on this game and on the upcoming updates. My Personal Experience:I really enjoy this game. At this moment in time there's an enormous amount of content in the game - to the point where I'm still learning tactics, combos and overall simply how to be better at the game. For an early access game this is actually pretty impressive. The combat in this game is really satisfying, getting kills is pretty damn fun! The only real gripe I have is that there's only one death animation where they just fall onto their knees and die... This is kind of boring to be honest but it is in alpha so I'll say this as constructive criticism - add in instagibs for overkills and various different death animations based on which class you use and that'll make the game much more responsive and make each class more unique. On
they're all kind of similar to be honest, the Fire, Lightning and Frost all have the same first ability which is basically a close range, consistent attack which is kind of the same really but I expect that will change as the game is developed on more. The Arcane, Nature and Earth are more unique but overall they all share very similar traits which is kind of a shame really. I would like to see more status effects because at the moment there's pretty much only the slowing effect from frost. This game has a lot of potential though, just by making the classes more unique and different adding in more play-styles it can really turn this game into something great. Then just by copying the structure of a lot of competitive games we have now such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with a functioning matchmaking system, leader-boards and ranks and there you have it! A fully functional competitive game. The graphics are not great though, and by not great I mean 2004 Unreal Tournament Mod. They're bad and way too dark. It is alpha at the moment so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and in defence for the developers the most recent update did make a lot of the spells look better.Speaking of developers, these guys are great, every weekend they schedule play-tests - and in fact I played with them the other day (Saturday). They read the forums and respond to everything. They're pretty good guys and equally they're pretty damn good at the game too...Overall this game is pretty fun, I'll be keeping tabs on this game and on the upcoming updates. If you liked this review or want to see more recommended games, be sure to follow our curator group: Check out the Original Network Groups. First impressions upon getting into a match wasn't great to be honest, the presentation, lack of any tutorial and basically the whole pre alpha-ness of the game made me groan at what i thought was just another shoddy early access game. Now after a couple of matches i'm ashamed to have doubted this delightful and refreshingly frantic FPS. Having full team mage battles is incredible as there are no mana costs on spells so ice winds and fire storms are just flying everywhere while you dodge and weave around the back and steal the control points. Yeah the look of the game currently isn't anything to bust a nut over yet, but i've honestly not had this much fun in an online FPS in ages. Looking very much forward to what the game will look like out of early access, so i'ma buy this tasty gem and hope others do too as i want more massive mage throwdowns. Just please change the hands in first person, they are flopping all over the place, and also add different spell effects that appear in the right hand as i need that visual feedback to know what spell i've got selected. I’ve got partial poo brain.

First ImpressionI logged onto the game and dominated with the fire class, while i feel like the class balance could use some work i still see potential in the game. The game feels like a mix of Unrealtournament and Magica, fast pace and extremly fun once you get the hang of how the spells works. I had some issues joining servers in the beginning but simply rejoining 1-2 times solved the issue and i have not crashed since.I have have spoken to one of the developers, and i get the impression that they really care about the game which can't be said about many game developers out there.VerdictIf i where to give this game rating i would give it 6/10, they have some work infront of them but i am sure with time that 6/10 would be a soild 10. Is it worth EUR12.99? Well that is entierly up to you, i bought mine on the 50% sale and i would still have bought it for 12.99 after trying the free weekend.

Did you like invoker in Dota 2? Did you wish for a game where wizards could battle each other in First-person? If so this is definitely your game of choice. It is a bit buggy and new. (/'_')/ \('_')/ \('_'\)=Wex!, Quas!, Exort!

Keeping in mind this is an Early Access game, here is my $0.02.I love this game. I love the concept, the execution, and the potential. It's fun, fast, and with proper support from the developers and community, will be an excellent game. The graphics are not top notch by any means, and the UI's need a complete overhaul. The skills need tweaking and rebalancing. More animations and visual effects need to be added. These are all things that I, for once, have faith the developers will attempt to solve.

It's an early access alpha right now. If you're unfamilliar with what that means, that means that it's not feature complete and a little rough around the edges. However, the structure is solid and the class structure is fantastic. The mage classes are all themed well and a blast to play--the interactions and gameplay between all their skills has quite a bit of depth, if you take the time to learn how they work properly. Each duel between rival mages feels different, and losing isn't frustrating because you can always think of something you could have done better. As an added bonus, a group of friends and I were playing and ended up playing with the level designer and talking with him on voicechat while we murdered each other with fireballs. He was super cool and down-to earth. He took our feedback, and talked to us about the future direction for the game, which sounded awesome.I don't normally do Early Access anymore, but this is one to make an exception for. If you don't feel like buying it, at least keep it on your list of games to check out again when it's closer to done--there's a lot to be excited for in this.

I like what I have played so far. The game does need a lot of work. I think the mages have
good variance in abilities and appearance and I like the atmosphere of the map
and game in general. I did crash a few times but I expect that from an alpha.
I think overall a few of the things that need improved the most are probably the combat, and the graphics. Combat wise everything seems to be there and functioning, the biggest negative I have noticed is you just dont feel it. There needs to be some way to make the combat feel more &combaty& and less floaty.
Make the hits count. As it stands that's by far my biggest complaint. I think the game could definitely use better assets, or &graphics&. Unless they are specifically going for an art style that's this old I dont see a reason why they should not put the extra effort in, after all the rest of the game seems nice. if the managed to keep the stlye but make the textures look like a more modern game I think it would do wonders for it.
I had never heard of this game before the free weekend, but we need more games like it. First person mage shooter? Why dont more people do this!

Hello everyone! If you are looking at this game THEN BUY IT. Look it isn't Skyrim or any other RPG, its Call of Duty instead of guns its spells and a lot of awesomeness! I started playing this game like 30 minutes ago so i don't have much to say but i played it and i opened a huge can of kick butt! So if you are intrested in magic and elements then i recomend trying out this gameif your not into magic or elements then don't buy it.

Game is great and, given its alpha/early access status, what I expected bug wise.
That said, I haven't crashed yet or noticed anything particularly gamebreaking, so there's that.
But seriously, I get to run around as a sith lord and kill people with never ending lightning from my fingertips.
Enought said.

If hexen and call of duty had a baby and that baby married Team fortress 2 and had their own baby and that baby went off to college and... this is getting technical.. in any case this game feels a lot like a nod towards the old school style of FPS wizard combat with a 3d engine on it. I like it overall even if i haven't had nearly enough game time to fully reveiw it (need new computer!) but overall it feels unique enough to stand out. I still think it needs a bit more work, but its on the right path and look forward to the end result.

For an EA Alpha game running this smooth for me: 9/10Wizard fpc {F) ) you have the choice between 6 unique classes. Each utilizes it's own style with 4 personal attack and a passive. You then have a choice between 2 utility perks that all share and complete the skillset. Using that, your team of 5
will attempt to take over the most control points while gaining them for kils as wellTo my feelings after I played them, this is how each felt to me, of course basing it off how much the damage output and range was:Fire: Feels like your all aout assault classIce: Gives you more crowd controlLightning: Feels more like your long range damageEarth: DefensiveNether:
AoE based, good for controlling groundNature: Healer with AoE stylePros:Runs great for a 2 month old AlphaClasses diverse enoughMultipul mapsNot alot of downtimeNo class levelsStreamlined setup selectionAreas to Improve:(Can't be called cons, this is a 2 month old EA Alpha)The game is relatively new, Server list will most likely pick up as player base does. My only concern was no tutorial or documentation which can give you a fuzzy first 5 minutes, but this is something they can easily code in later. There is a Player Level that doesn't seem to be implimented in yet, but tracks basic skills. I can see where this could evolve into a perk, rune, or some otherwise named account wide personalized playstyle system. The free play endded a bit ago, and it's on sale 50% off, under $8 at the moment, so definently picking this up to see where they bring this game too

I waited for this download for well over 4 hours, starting sometime in the early hours of the morning and only getting to play it well past lunch, my internets been really crap as of late, not the point. THE POINT IS! and this is simple, this game was completely worth the wait, I mean, the lack of tutorial, the shoddy old school graphics, and the lagginess that comes from playing on a server no where near australia, reminded me of my old gaming days when I was younger, it's not hard to jump in, check out the controls, they are really simple, and you can choose between two setups, an FPS - choose your weapon/spell style of setup where you have each spell to flick through from numbers 1 to 4 or you can have the quick shot setup which puts each of the 4 spells in a conveniant place near your fingers, you won't find yourself reaching out of the way to hit a spell button from across the keyboard, even the dash or &manawalk& or whatever its been called, is conventiently placed, it also comes in handy for parkouring to places on the map, I found my self jumping from one balcony to another using it, a versatile skill which just adds to the awesome gameplay, this game isn't perfect but it looks like the devs are doing their best to slowly iron out the wrinkles and deflea it from the bugs, classes seem to be well balanced, although I only played the earth class, simply because the drop mechanic on the boulders seemed interesting to me, I can't wait to see how this game progresses and I hope to whatever deity exists that this game becomes very popular, I will reccommend it to everybody i can. what else is there? umm... well this would be an easy game to use with a controller setup, and umm... well theres nothing else, once the devs smooth out the gameplay, thin the hit boxes for some of the abilities, like the Earth ultimate (I kept hitting a lampost or a roof or something when I specifically aimed for total annihlation of a single person) anyways, for an alpha, this is an awesome game. yes, yes yes. You reading this review? buy it, don't hesitate, you won't regret it. Promise &3

Totally would recommend. It's a great game, for still being in alpha, and has a really nice combat idea. I can't wait untill the final product comes out. I really hope they add some sort of progression system though along with fixing some of the abilities. ( nethermancer/ void wizard's ultimate) But still, its great and i definitely recommend it to anyone.
